13th November 2008 - The Duke of Marlborough Shield - Proudly Sponsored by MSF Services

The Shield returned last night after an absence of some 16 years last night. Mark Fillery, Managing Director of MSF Services Ltd generously supplied the trophies and cash prizes for 180's and 150+ outs. Luckily Mark's money was safer than Northern Rock!

The usual suspects were out in force as usual with a couple of wildcards - Spanish Steve and Darren. Round one kicked off to a couple of closely fought battles followed by Gif and Nemo, Nemo just managing to arrive in time to beat Gif 2-0 in a stunning display of 100+'s and Gif unfortunately couldn't reply due to suffering from a broken collar bone and three broken fingers... All in all it was a great display from all players with Howard "Pretty in Pink" taking the spoils and the proud holder of the 2008 Shield...

The Dukes will next be playing at home on Thursday 20th November against the Shamrocks. This is a must win game as they are only a point behind in the league...Come on the DUKE!

The Duke of Marlborough are in fine fettle in Division 4 of the St Albans Winter Darts League... The view from the heady heights of the top of the league is outstanding with 7 wins out of 7 games and last night(6th November 2008) kicking off our Cup run with a resounding 9-0 whitewash of the Garibaldi, we will let you know when we are allowed back!

Last nights game was yet again a finely tuned performance, Although losing the first leg a couple of times we soon bounced back to take the glory. After the four doubles we only needed the one game to seal the victory and with that the late arrival Mark "Ming the Merciless" Foskett flew in and destroyed any hope the squashed fly biscuits had of a comeback with a straight two game win... Nevertheless the home team admitted defeat and went home for an early bath... Keep up the good work guys and see you next Thursday 13th November for an in-house cup game... We are the DUKE!
